Hello and welcome I'm Katharine,

I'm a registered and fully insured osteopath based in North Chailey, East Sussex. I am proud to serve a wide area of communities in East Sussex, West Sussex and Kent including Newick, Chailey, Uckfield, Lewes and Haywards Heath.

I'm passionate about providing the highest quality care to help you to get back to the things you love as quickly as possible. I pride myself on taking time to listen to your concerns and your body.

I use various osteopathy approaches such as structural, cranial and visceral osteopathy alongside fascial manipulation/release and energetic work. I may also advise exercise, stretching or lifestyle suggestions. This extensive tool kit enables me to tailor make the right treatment approach for the most effective results, for you.

I feel privileged to be able to treat all ages. I have treated babies on the day they were born to seniors in their 94th year and everyone in between!

I have several specialist areas of clinical interest including but not limited to:

  • Women's health; pregnancy/breastfeeding & peri/menopause

  • Baby/Children's health and helping them to develop and unfold in balance

  • Stress/Anxiety/Self Esteem/Phobias and how these manifest in the physical body

  • Gut Health and the Microbiome - the precursor to health and vitality

  • Master Herbalism - supporting, nurturing and nourishing your body for better health

I graduated from the ESO with first class honours and worked between 3 fantastic and busy practices before deciding to set up my own clinic once my own children came along. You can find my published research on pelvic visceral adhesions following Caesarean section using Ultrasound in the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies (JBMT).

I am a trained CONTROL Practitioner using remedial hypnosis, a powerful talking therapy to help unlock old patterns of thought that are holding us back, this works particularly well for trauma, addiction, anxiety, OCD and fear avoidance.

In addition I am a trainer peer supporter with the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers (ABM) providing vital feeding support in the community assisting families on this journey. Please refer to the relevant pages for more information.

Lastly but by no means least I am a registered practitioner with Genova Diagnostics, an internationally renowned laboratory committed to the highest standards of clinical laboratory testing for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of complex chronic disease. My practitioner number is A75YE.

Chronic diseases are often complex and Genova's innovative and comprehensive system-based testing helps physicians develop targeted treatments for their patients.

Why Osteopathy

Why Osteopathy?

Osteopathy isn't just for back pain, knee pain, hip pain, shoulder discomfort or joint stiffness additionally people of all ages can benefit from cranial osteopathy, not just babies!

Osteopathy can benefit everyone, from retired people wanting to stay healthy and keep fit to people spending long periods sitting at their desks or driving, from the elderly to the very young and everyone in between. Osteopaths use a system of manual diagnosis and treatment based on the relationship between the structure of the body and the way it functions. Osteopaths use a range of manual techniques to help restore normal function. These might include physical manipulation, stretching and massage to increase mobility within joints, reduce muscular tension and pain, and enhance blood supply to tissues.

They also offer advice on posture and exercises to promote recovery and help to prevent symptoms recurring.

Osteopathy can help with but is not limited to...

Small Green Plants
Internal Health

If we're not functioning properly on the inside, we aren't functioning well on the outside either. Visceral health (the health of our internal organs) can have a big impact on the way our body is functioning as a whole.

Gut issues for example have been linked to various aliments such as skin complaints notably eczema as well as allergies and even our mood.

Babies and Children

Osteopaths are qualified to work with babies and children and many osteopaths hold specialists post-graduate qualifications in paediatric osteopathy.

Osteopaths sometimes work with local health visitors and midwives and are trained to screen for medical conditions and will tell you if you need to see another health professional such as your doctor or midwife.

Sport and Fitness

Whether its improving your performance at the gym, preparing for a big sporting event, getting started in fitness for overall health or promoting healing and recovery following an injury, osteopathy can help to support your body throughout the process.

Women's Health

The female body will go through dramatic changes during puberty, pregnancy, breastfeeding and menopause.

The endocrine system is an amazing thing. It's the extensive network of glands that produce the hormones we need to regulate metabolism, sexual function, growth, mood and more.

As we move through the stages of life, our hormone levels fluctuate; aging means that we produce more of some hormones and less of others.

Supportive osteopathic treatments alongside diet and lifestyle advice can help you take back control of your body and be your own leading light for health.

Stress

Late nights, screen time, artificial lighting and being constantly digitally connected all contribute to NOT following our bodies natural circadian rhythms of rest and balance. This increasingly "busy" way of living can manifest as stress within the body.

Treatments and lifestyle advice can help to re-address this balance.

Men's Health

Did you know that a percentage of men also experience a type of menopause, it's called andropause. This affects certain men because of a significant decrease in testosterone leading to symptoms such as decreased muscle mass, decreased energy, low libido and low mood. Supportive osteopathic treatments alongside diet and lifestyle advice can help to ease symptoms.

Testimonials

"I am a landscape and wildlife photographer and often walk across difficult terrain in order to get my shots. Having stretched a knee ligament following a walk through very boggy ground Katharine was recommended to me. She was able to diagnose the problem quickly and used her knowledge of the structure of the knee to apply the appropriate treatment over a few weeks. I noticed more mobility and less pain from my knee and the symptoms had completely gone by the third session. I will certainly not hesitate to seek Katharine's assistance again."
